80% OF ANTIBIOTICS COULD BE SAVED WITH HOMEOPATHY / INTERVIEW WITH BIRGIT GNADL, THE WELL-KNOWN EXPERT IN ANIMAL HOMEOPATHY

As a normal globules user, you only have people in mind with globules. However, there is also an exciting trend in agriculture, which I will accompany again and again with blog articles in the Homoeopathiewatchblog from now on: Homeopathy instead of antibiotics. The reason is plausible. Annually for example 480 million litres of milk must be disposed because of antibiotics, that corresponds to a equivalent value of 144 million euro.

In Switzerland, milk farmers will switch to homeopathy from 2019 in order to save on antibiotics. In Bavaria, the „Milchwerkt Berchtesgardener Land“ cooperates closely with its farmers, so that they also switch and at the same time do without glyphosate. This development does not happen by chance, but there are driving forces behind it. Already in 1997 the first working group homeopathy for animals took place in the agricultural office Traunstein, Bavaria. Initiators were Josef Graspeuntner (homeopath in Traunstein) and Frans Wimmer (farmer from Kirchanschöring, Bavaria). The working group still exists today. It takes place several times a year with 100 participants each. With Traunstein as a role model, 10 further regions followed with their own working groups, mainly in Bavaria, but also in Austria and Tyrol.

I discussed this future topic with Birgit Gnadl, an animal homeopath and seminar leader, about the 200 years old healing method homeopathy. She is a head behind the trend „homeopathy instead of antibiotics in agriculture“.

Some numbers to classify the relevance of the topic:

Total number: in Bavaria approx. 10,000 farmers from a total of 30,000 farmers use homeopathy.

Distribution: 20% of the homeopathic farms are organic farms, 80% conventional farms.

Treatment: of 4 million dairy cows every second one gets a mastitis, which is treated with antibiotics or homeopathy.

Value loss: with antibiotic treatment the milk must be disposed of. That’s 480 million litres of milk a year worth 144 million euros.

Interview with Birgit Gnadl:

Christian Becker: With antibiotic treatment, dairy cows are banned for at least a week and their milk has to be disposed of. What are the costs of antibiotic treatment in detail?

Birgit Gnadl: „Every 2nd cow in Germany has a mastitis every year. If this is treated with antibiotics, it leaves 240 litres of antibiotic milk in about a week, which must be disposed of. There are 4 million dairy cows in Germany, 2 million of them get mastitis. These cows produced 480 million litres of antibiotic milk, which has to be disposed of.
If this is calculated on the basis of an average German milk price of 30 ct, which the farmer receives, the farmers only lose 144 million euros for milk that cannot be used. This does not include the cost of treatments. In total, a udder infection in the cow costs the farmer about 450 euros.

Statistically, 2 ct/litre of milk falls back on veterinary costs.

A farm with about 40 cows produces about 250,000 litres of milk per year, which accounts for 12,500 euros of veterinary costs, which many farms can no longer afford.
If the farmer works homoeopathically, he has achieved health competence, this cost share is reduced to 20%, but in most cases it becomes even less over the years“.

Christian Becker: Why do farmers switch to homeopathy only for monetary reasons?

Birgit Gnadl: „Of course, the profitability of the farm also plays a role here, but there are often problems with antibiotic resistance in the farms as well. Conventional antibiotics no longer work reliably. A shortage of livestock veterinarians in some regions is also forcing farmers to focus more on animal health. More than 80% of veterinary graduates are female and being a farm veterinarian is a tough bone job. Women are usually not so common here. In addition, many veterinary practices have problems with new blood, many practices are given up.“

Christian Becker: How do dairies view the topic?

Birgit Gnadl: „Various dairies, especially with many mountain farmers such as the dairy „Milchwerk Berchtesgadener Land“, have long offered homeopathy seminars for their milk suppliers. The cooperative dairy, which belongs to the farmers, offers a wide range of 14-day seminars every spring and autumn, which are actively used by the farmers. It is even advertised here on the milk package and on the radio with homeopathy and the consumer thanks it by buying this qualitative, healthy but also high-priced milk“.

Christian Becker: What do the veterinarians and manufacturers of globules have to say about this?

Birgit Gnadl: „In a study a very good animal health and effectiveness could be determined by the responsible treatment of the animals by homeopathy. The farm veterinarians are involved in the diagnostics and complementary treatments of the farms and attest very good animal observation and sustainable treatment by the farm managers. There are farms that have not used antibiotics for decades.“ „Since this year the Austrian homeopathy manufacturer Remedia has brought the first globules approved for farm animals onto the market. The so-called „RemaVet“ series may be used for food animals without waiting time. At the beginning of the year, homeopathic remedies had a 5 % increase in sales, which can be attributed to the launch of the new RemaVet series, as farmers can now finally carry out homeopathic treatment on animals in accordance with the German Medicines Act.“

Christian Becker: Tell the readers of the Homoeopathiewatchblog a little about the seminars for homeopathy for farmers.

Birgit Gnadl: „Farmers learn to observe their animals better and to treat them homeopathically. All relevant topics and problems in the animal health are treated in addition, topics approximately around the agriculture.

On average, homeopathically trained farmers can do without 80% antibiotics for treatment after 3 years.

At the same time, the entire recycling economy on the farm is improving. Less antibiotics means less antibiotic milk that has to be disposed of. Fewer antibiotics in the slurry, better soil health, less groundwater pollution. In the seminars, farmers gain a new or rediscovered awareness of the cycles on their own farms.“

Christian Becker: Who organizes the seminars?

Birgit Gnadl: „It is usually the initiative of agricultural offices, farmers‘ associations, organic farming associations, dairies, provincial adult education centres and agricultural schools in Austria that have anchored homeopathy in the third year of training for young farmers.

Christian Becker: How many farmers participate in the courses and what happens after the courses?

Birgit Gnadl: „Every year Angela Lamminger and I have about 2000 course registrations, all farmers who are willing to continue their training. The farmers then network with each other via WhatsApp to share problems and experiences, these groups are supported by „IGARI®“. IGARI was founded by Birgit Gnadl and is an association of animal health practitioners, animal homeopaths, lecturers and homeopathic farmers with a distribution list of over 10,000 addresses“.

Christian Becker: Many thanks for the interesting interview.
